Georgia Environmental Scan Report

July 18, 2019 update from Together Georgia lobbyist, Nelson Mullins by Helen Sloat, legislative consultant:

Today, the Governor and Department of Community Health rolled out Georgia’s environmental scan of the state in advance of its discussions on the Medicaid 1115 and 1332 waiver proposals which the State is undertaking to craft in the coming months.  The scan prepared by Deloitte https://medicaid.georgia.gov/sites/medicaid.georgia.gov/files/related_files/document/GA%20Waiver_Georgia%20Environmental%20Scan%20Report_07082019.pdf  and it outlines much of the state’s demographics around the uninsured population and where there are gaps in covered services.  Additionally, there was another document released and posted on DCH’s website  used at the meeting which is found here.  I am sharing this information as the waivers could impact families which you will touch.  Note in particular the comments made about Georgia’s ranking for all behavioral measures (32nd).  The consultants are open to multiple ideas and are not wedded to what other states have undertaken so far.  The governor’s lead staff person on this project emphasized a need for Georgia solution.

There will be stakeholders meetings over the next few weeks on the waivers.  We will keep you posted.
