Weekly Update November 15, 2019

Together Georgia Day

The 2020 Together Georgia Day at the Capitol is scheduled January 29 from 9:00-noon.

Each year, the General Assembly begins its legislative session on the second Monday in January. Together Georgia Day provides TG members opportunity to meet face-to-face with legislators at the Capitol. Calendars are not yet set and, although we cannot predict whether The House and The Senate will be in session, key legislators most often are on site for appropriations and other committee meetings.

Every legislator will receive an invitation that includes information about Together Georgia and a list of all active TG member agencies. 2020 TG Day will be a productive and meaningful day. TG members are encouraged to participate and invited to set up exhibit materials.

Please let us know whether your agency will exhibit this year. This is a no-charge event to TG members, but exhibit space is limited. (Exhibit tables are shared--two to three agencies per table.)  Exhibit reservations are required; additional individual participation is welcome and encouraged.

How to decipher the federal Family First Preservation and Services Act and its implications for child welfare providers
Together Georgia Provider Alliance in collaboration with The University of Georgia J. W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development offers the following training

December 10, 2019 10am-2pm
Program Description: This 4-hour program will provide mid-level managers and supervisors with an understanding of how the federal government is seeking to improve child welfare outcomes through the Federal Family Preservation and Services Act (FFPSA).  This session is specifically geared to the program and operations staff who have the experience and expertise to influence program approach and design within their agency, and the role that their agency plays in supporting children and families who come in contact with the child welfare system.  We will discuss the values that the federal legislation places on establishing standards of good practice, implementing program models that have evidence to demonstrate their effectiveness, and keeping children in a family setting when out of home care is required, among others. Participants will be asked to reflect on these values and their consistency with their agency’s own values, leading to a discussion of how your agency evaluates risks and opportunities presented by public policies and funding.
