Legislative Update January 9, 2017
2017 General Assembly Session, Legislative Session Begins
It's hard to believe that we are entering into yet another legislative session. We are sharing with you a variety of sources where you can keep up to date with what is happening during this year's session. Please see the primers sent out by Voices for Georgia's Children and the Emory Barton Child Law and Policy Center. These advocacy organizations both focus on a broad section of child, youth and family issues.
Linked is the last TG summary of the 2016 session. We will provide a matrix that will serve as a comprehensive listing of bills that you can click on to get as much detail as you need. During the 2017 session, we will regularly update the legislative summary and matrix and include it in the Weekly Update. Please let us know if you need additional information about any bills or issues.
As with the past several years, we have already began our work on informing key legislators of the need for rate increases in all service sectors. We are not anticipating that the Governor has put these rate increases in his budget, so we may need you to testify at upcoming appropriations hearing. Let us know if you have an interest in doing so.
Also, remember that Together Georgia Day at the Capitol is next Wednesday, January 18th 8:30a.m.- noon. Member agencies are invited to sign up for exhibit space (at no cost to TG members.) Space is limited and we have been informed that they have reduced the number of tables allowed this year--providers will share tables. Please reserve your space and/or indicate how many staff will participate Click here to sign up.
