Let's wish John Blend a happy birthday in a big way!

On a Sunday morning, John and his wife Connie listened to the pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church share a desire to build a home for young men in foster care. The church lacked a location, and that’s when John knew God was speaking to him.

With extensive business experience but no knowledge of the child welfare system, John built relationships with local experts from that same church and set on a journey to learn how to build a non-profit that served foster children.

In December 1997, the Goshen Valley Foundation was established. John and the foundation board spent the next 4 years hiring staff, obtaining licenses and building infrastructure. In 2001, Goshen Valley Boys Ranch opened its doors to serve their first young man.

Through this visionary leadership he has helped shape countless aspects of the child welfare system in the state of Georgia.

Today, John is the Board Chair of the Goshen Valley Foundation. In the past 2 years, John served as the president of Together Georgia, a child welfare collaborative that focuses on influencing public policy and being a voice for foster care in the community. He has served the community in countless ways. Please join us in celebrating his 70th birthday!
