Foster Care and Educational Opportunities for youth and professionals

Colleagues:

I am sending you this information combined in one message for a number of reasons, but mainly so as not to clog your inboxes with multiple messages.  I also hope that you will share liberally throughout your networks.  Below you will find information about 3 programs directly related to foster care and education that provide opportunities for young people and/or adult supporters.   Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or thoughts.

1. CollegeBound 2017

This year, several campuses in Georgia will partner with the nsoro Foundation to deliver Collegebound.  CollegeBound is designed for young people in foster care who are rising 10-11th graders to spend time on campus and learn about college life.  Participating campuses this year include:

  • University of Georgia
  • Kennesaw State University
  • Savannah State University
  • Albany State University
  • Clark Atlanta University

A flyer is attached and more information and a registration link can be found at www.thenf.org

2. Embark Georgia 2017 Leadership Conference

The Embark Georgia Conference is a unique event that will convene professionals from higher ed, K-12 and the community to consider important issues that young people who have experienced foster care and/or homelessness face while pursuing a postsecondary education. Who should attend? Higher education professionals, case managers, homeless liaisons, private foster care professionals, and any other community partners interested in supporting this group of students!

3. Education and Training Voucher Program

In July 2015, Fanning officially became the third party partner to administer the ETV funds on behalf of the ILP program.  ETV provides financial support for young people who have experienced foster care.  There are some specific criteria and every case is unique, but in general, these funds may be used to provide for tuition, books, housing, stipends and more that are related to the pursuit of one postsecondary degree.
