Children and Families Gain a Powerful Advocate as Former Juvenile Court Judge Juanita Stedman Joins Together Georgia as Executive Director
Former Cobb County judge moves to nonprofit sector, citing effectiveness, legacy of Together Georgia in meeting growing need across state
ATLANTA - (July 10, 2017) - Together Georgia Provider Alliance, Inc., a preeminent voice in Georgia's child and family welfare policy-making for 50 years, has named Former Cobb County Juvenile Court Judge Juanita Stedman to serve as executive director, effective August 2017. Stedman’s selection comes after a national search led by the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, with over 200 candidates identified and screened.
Previously serving as a judge of the Juvenile Court of Cobb County for 16 years, Stedman knows intimately the challenges faced by children, adolescents and their families. Her passionate involvement for this cause will carry over in her work with Together Georgia.
“In my role as a judge, I recall times we had children facing seemingly insurmountable obstacles, and I have seen the powerful way Together Georgia was able to mobilize resources and collaborate to make an impact in very practical ways for children and their families,” said Judge Juanita Stedman.
“To address needs that are only growing, and to ensure that vulnerable Georgians receive the services they need, requires collaboration,” said Stedman. “I look forward to working as part of the team at Together Georgia to maximize the impact for children and youth throughout the state.”
“Judge Stedman exemplifies the collaborative approach Together Georgia brings to meeting the needs of children and families through an alliance of public and private communities,” said Karl Lehman, president & CEO of Childkind, Inc. and the board president of Together Georgia. “Since its inception 50 years ago, Together Georgia has been a tireless champion of children all across Georgia.”
Together Georgia represents 150 agencies that provide services to children and families across Georgia. The decision to hire Judge Stedman is consistent with and supportive of Director of the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) Bobby Cagle's goal of dramatically improving the outcomes of children and youth in the state through a professional model of effective welfare services. Judge Stedman and Together Georgia enthusiastically anticipate being at the side of the Division of Family and Children Services as we make this goal a reality.
“We look forward to continuing to build on the strong legacy of Together Georgia and to partner with Judge Stedman as she takes the helm," said Virginia Pryor, chief of staff for Georgia DFCS. “Her leadership and unwavering commitment to children and families embodies our collective desire to ensure safe children, strengthened families and a stronger Georgia.”
